HARSH SADNESS has quietly been written and developed around Noisebridge in various classrooms over the last five months. We appreciate being able to use the space for meetings! Now we are ready for this rip roaring show to explode all over the stage, just a few blocks away at 22nd and Valencia! Our performance is part of the Marsh Rising series, where new shows are considered for a full theatrical run at The Marsh!
What’s behind door number one? It’s HARSH SADNESS, America’s favorite game show of death! Grab your tissues, join our live studio audience and watch as three sincere contestants tell their saddest stories, knock on death’s door, and win your votes. One beloved masochist will spin the wheel of misfortune to end their pain, all in front of YOU. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll execute someone.
Harsh Sadness was a 3rd place winner of last year’s Marsh Madness competition, against 30+ acts. This Marsh Rising is a chance to prove themselves worthy of a longer Marsh run.
Harsh Sadness was co-created by James Sundquist, Edna Mira Raia and Jeremy Krupp, for the first Marsh Madness competition in 2018, where it placed third. The three actors originally envisioned their solo material being flipped on its head to create a theatrical structure not typically seen at The Marsh, within the confines of the competition’s rules. This Marsh Rising, James Sundquist and Edna Mira Raia join forces with new members, Dan Foley and James Green, to remount this hilarious theatrical game show in a one-of-a-kind extended format, this time with all the bells and whistles!
This re-envisioned show brings the energy and appeal of an actual game show with new characters, while keeping the intimacy of live theatre.
How close can a theatre group get to replicating a live tv game show experience? Find out at the Marsh Rising!
