Talking with @hicksu about sensor data and automation for the space using PIR motion sensors.
Raspberry Pi can be used as a controller with:
Automation is fun, could assist with shutting or opening the space, help collect some metrics for fundraising, and other cool concepts.

the bigger challenge is switching the amount of power involved, which is non-trivial for a room full of high current equipment

I’ve got some experience with Snips on the RPi if anyone wants to talk about their ideas.

What’s wrong with solid state relays? Those suckers are rated for 40 amps. That’s 4,800 watts on a 120v line, and 9,600w on a 240 line, and since they’re solid state they should be fast enough to drive in parallel if your Death Ray requires more than 10 kilowatts.

What other kinds of sensors do we want?
Perhaps voltage monitoring, temperature, humidity.
It would be amazing to open and close at least part of the space from Earl access control!
